toothless and no binkie!

I have no great pictures to go with this update, but I wanted to share Braydon's first impromptu visit to the dentist.  Ryan, Aunt Dani, Braydon and I were outside on Sunday evening Oct. 23 carving pumpkins.  Braydon was bored, so we was walking on the bench on the deck.  He does this is a lot, so no one was really paying much attention.  For some reason, he decided to walk off the end of it, which caused him to fall, hit his chin on the planter and then hit the back of his head on the bench.  Needless to say it hurt!  He was bleeding from his mouth and had a giant bump on his head.  We got him to clean his mouth up and put some ice on his head.  He seemed okay and it looked like his gums were just bleeding.

That night, he wanted a bowl of cereal.  As soon as he took a bite, he began to cry and pointed to the side of his mouth.  He wouldn't eat.  The next morning, he did the same thing. I guess it was time for Braydon's first visit to the dentist. Braydon was in a great mood!  We arrived at the dentist and they had all these fun toys - cars and dinosaurs!  Then Braydon stole a toy from another kid, so I told him no and he began to cry.  Then it was time to see the dentist.  So I took him in screaming about wanting a car the other kid had and he refused to sit in the seat.  After crying in the corner for a little while, the dentist finally got to look in his mouth.  He checked on the front teeth and said he is fine, then I said, well he points to the side of his mouth, can you look there.  Then the dentist said..."oh no" - not what I wanted to hear.

Braydon had fractured his tooth.  No wonder he couldn't eat.  He said we had to pull it.  So we go back into the waiting room until they are ready.  Braydon was not too excited to sit in the chair again.  But the plan was 3 minutes of gas, then numb his mouth, then pull the tooth.  So 10 minutes of Braydon in the chair!  It took myself and 2 assistants, plus the dentist to contain him.  As I am holding him down, telling him it will be okay, holding back tears the dentist gets to work.  Twice while trying to pull the tooth he said "oh no" - seriously I don't want to hear that! He had shattered his tooth into 5 pieces!

Finally they were all done and Braydon sat up with his mouth full of blood crying and I said...do you want to go home and watch Buzz...he stopped crying and said "yes".  He happily walked out the dentist office, got a few toys and even told the dentist "thank you".

We spent the rest of the day eating yogurt and watching buzz.  What a trooper!

On a side note, we had to get rid of the binkie on the dentist's recommendation.  He doesn't sleep as well as he use to or go to bed as willingly as he use to, but we are proud to say he is binkie free!
