There were a few things were not sure of, where wanted to live? Kind of a tough one. So we began our search for the perfect home - we looked in Grimes, Urbandale, West Des Moines, and Waukee. We absolutely love West Des Moines, but I was worried about out kids going to such a big high school (I know we have a few years, but time goes so fast). I also wanted this house to be one that we can stay in for a long time (if we want to). After looking at 25 houses one day another 15 another day and a few more in between, we finally found our house...in Urbandale! There were a few things that we need to do to it, but we loved the floor plan, its on a culdesac and has a decent size yard. Probably my favorite feature is an ice maker and water dispenser in the fridge!!
Well we don't like to do anything easy, so throughout this process we made it as difficult as possible. When we decided on a closing date for our old house, the buyer wanted August 9. To make sure we weren't asking too much, we agreed. I was going to be in New York that day for a friends wedding, but thought no big deal, we will just move before that closing date (well I learned it doesn't work like that because you need the money from house #1 to purchase house #2 or you may get stuck with 2 mortgages)!
So here is where the fun begins, we are gone every weekend in July (we actually purchased our house while we were in Kansas for 4th of July). So we packed stuff when we could and next thing we knew, it was time to move. The toughest thing was making sure I could sign the papers for the new house early, luckily by Wednesday, Aug. 7 around 5pm, I signed the papers. Thursday I left for New York at 5am. It was pretty weird to pull out of the driveway and know I wouldn't be returning to our house. Our first house was a perfect first house for us. We were able to truly make that house a home with lots of laughter, love, friends, and family. It was a great place to bring both our boys home from the hospital to. I will really miss a lot about that house, but am pretty excited for our next adventure.
Lucky for us our friends and family were ready to help out with the move. Our parents took turns watching the boys, Ryan and his friends all helped move. It took 2 trips with the moving van, lots of boxes and a few hours trying to get a treadmill apart and out of the basement.
I got back on Sunday around 1pm to a new house with most of the heavy lifting already done. Thanks everyone for all your help! Its been a month now and yes we still have some boxes to unpack, but we are definitely getting closer and this house is really starting to feel like home.
On of our last days in our old house on Vine St. it was tough, but we did get a family picture
